If so, who is responsible for providing it?

Millions of federal dollars were used to build social and co-op housing in the 60’s, 70’s and 80’s. The federal government stopped funding social housing in early 90’s and so did most provinces. Populations kept growing but the availability of affordable housing has not kept up to needs. Private landlords can not be expected to provide subsidized housing.

Most economists and planners agree that the federal government must step up with massive investments of money into infrastructure as well as financing for new homes. Many refer back to post WWII, when thousands of houses were built to accommodate returning soldiers, to show this can be done.

This will be a massive team effort. All three levels of government will need to collaborate with private sector builders to provide much needed housing.

Which party offers a “most likely to succeed” plan?
